 WHO WE ARE

OVER 100+ LMSV PARENTS & COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT SEE THE NEED FOR POSITIVE CHANGES TO OUR SCHOOL BOARD

THE MOVEMENT

ACES stands for Action Community for Educators and Students. It is a community-led group of residents in Spring Valley and La Mesa who want to see change in our communities, focusing on the La Mesa Spring Valley school board. We care about having people in office who represent our values and can make the best decisions for our communities.

ACES endorses three candidates: Chardá Fontenot, Jerry Lecko, and Rebecca McRae. These candidates are passionate about:

  • Improving the relationship between the school board and the community

  • Increasing transparency of financial information

  • Focusing on what is best for our students

  • Improving school safety

  • Looking at problems with fresh eyes

  • Keeping party politics away from the school board

  • Making decisions that are best for ALL students in the district, not just one school or program

Time for a change

For a long time, party politics has governed the board of the La Mesa Spring Valley School District, and determined who was elected or appointed to serve, without regard for qualifications. We want board members who put our children at the forefront of their service, who RESPECT students, teachers, and the community. We want board members who will increase transparency, who will be open about what they're doing and why.

The school board appointed member Rebekah Basson in 2017 after a member resigned, rejecting four qualified candidates with experience in the district and education. Board members David Chong and Jim Long stated that they selected Basson due to her affiliation with the Republication Party.

Board member David Chong, owner of AO Sword Firearms, disrespected students who spoke out against gun violence, and has also made comments about the Holocaust that have been refuted by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a leading anti-hate organization. http://www.cbs8.com/story/37990422/your-stories-investigates-la-mesa-school-board-president-criticized-over-facebook-video-post-about-gun-rights

We do not need more people who get paced on school board due to their political affiliation, or who want to be on school board because it suits their political career. We want board members who make our community proud, and who genuinely care about issues that affect students' education!
